Hannibal heads back to the states in new episode “Dolce.”
Could there be any more plotting on Hannibal? Pretty much everyone has their own little scheme — Hannibal (Mads Mikkelsen), Bedelia (Gillian Anderson), Will (Hugh Dancy), Jack (Laurence Fishburne) Mason (Joe Anderson), Alana (Caroline Dhavernas), Margot (Katharine Isabelle), Chiyoh (Tao Okamoto) — everyone.
Hannibal just wants to get out of Florence. Bedelia’s certainly not going to stand in his way, but she’s also not going to go with him. He seems surprised (who’d have thought anyone but Will is capable of surprising Hannibal?) but it’s like Bedelia said — he may make a meal of her yet.
And then, for one shining moment, in what might be the sweetest scene of the series, it seems like Will is finally going to run away with Hannibal, but alas — it’s all a ruse, again. Will, stop Lucy-with-the-football-ing Hannibal.
Talk about a genius plan. Faking Miriam Lass Syndrome to pretend she really thinks she’s Lydia Fell? Classic Bedelia. Better yet, it looks like it might not even matter if anyone believes her.
Will, why couldn’t you have just run away with Hannibal like he wanted? You forgave him, he forgave you — at least as much as either of you could have. You could’ve had such a beautiful life together. Part of you will always want to run away with him.
And here we thought Chiyoh simply wanted to kill Hannibal! No, she wants him caged, the way she was caged. (Or maybe not — maybe she lied to Bedelia and really does just want to protect Hannibal, the way he thinks she does.)
Mason and Cordell continue planning for Hannibal’s arrival, not realizing that they’ll be getting an appetizer and/or dessert in the form of Will. While Cordell seems to simply want to please Mason, Mason just wants to walk again. (It’s interesting that his face isn’t unmarred in this fantasy.)
Let’s discuss what Margot wants. After Margot’s unfortunate and forced hysterectomy, performed on Mason’s orders, she still just wants a baby. Adoption comes to her mind, but Mason wants them to raise a Verger baby together.
Obviously Margot has no interest in letting her or any child near Mason, but the idea of a Verger heir still seems okay to her, so in a post-coital moment with Alana she asks her new lover if she knows anything about “harvesting sperm.”
Speaking of Alana, she’s still plugging away, preparing to double-cross Mason and get Hannibal behind bars. We expect we’ll learn the full details of her plan next week.
And then there’s Jack. Like Alana, he just wants to put Hannibal away, he’s just not being as sneaky about it. For the first time I can remember, there was a look of real fear on Jack’s face in this episode. His worst nightmare is coming true — he’s failed Will Graham. (At least, he thinks he’s failed Will Graham.)
